We tend to think peace will come when our circumstances change. But what if they weren’t the real problem? This week’s reflection explores the power of perception—and why the way we hold our experience often matters more than the experience itself.

We tend to think relief will come when something out there changes.
When the email gets answered.
When the scale moves.
When the person finally understands.
But what if the thing that needs to shift isn’t the circumstance?
What if it’s how you’re holding it.
How you interpret it.
React to it.
What you make it mean about you.
What matters even more is this:
Your body doesn’t respond to events.
It responds to your perception of those events.
And sometimes, all it takes is the smallest twist of the lens.
A breath you didn’t rush.
A jaw you unclenched.
A thought seen from one notch wider.
That can change the entire picture.
It’s not about pretending everything’s fine.
It’s about keeping your peace in your own pocket,
not handing it to what you can’t control.
Not every problem needs fixing.
Some just need the volume turned down.
A return to center.
A quiet: This isn’t ideal, but it doesn’t get to define me.
Sometimes the biggest shift isn’t in your actions.
It’s in your stance.
The Heart of It
You can’t control what happens.
But you can notice when your thoughts are turning:
An inconvenience into a catastrophe.
A delay into a personal failure.
You can give that moment more space.
You can choose to see it differently.
Your power isn’t in what happens.
It’s in how you hold it.
Something to explore this week
This week, notice one situation that feels hard. Consider how you could hold it differently—and give it a go. I’d love to hear how doing so shifts how you feel about it. Share what you found with me on Instagram.
